Trolls

Trolls

Have you heard of the Trolls?

A troll is a class of being in Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore. These mystical, sometimes dangerous creatures from Norse mythology and folk tales have inspired many writers, composers, and even painters. There are several kinds of trolls but the two main you might encounter in Norway are the jötnar, very big and ugly ones, living in the mountains and turning into stone if they are touched by the sunlight. Jotunheimen (‘Home of the Giants’) is a  National Park located in southern Norway and recognized as one of the country’s premier hiking and fishing regions.

You also find the huldrefolk, they look like humans except for their long tale. Womens from that sort are considered little like mermaids , blond and very beautiful, who’s chant can put a spell on you. If you want to hear the huldra’s song, then travel to place called Myrdal, located nearby Voss in western Norway and take the Flamsbana railway (see our tour “7 days in Norway”). Fasten yourself by a rope to the train carriage, and somewhere on your travel down to the emerald waters of Sognefjord, you will hear the song (and maybe even see a glimpse of the huldra) calling you to come away.
